DWELL IN POSSIBILITY… FIND EASE IN THE BODY & MIND THROUGH PLAY WITH AWARENESS

My individualized approach helps solve movement puzzles while recognizing the parts and the wholeness of you. Working gently with awareness offers opportunities for new learning and possibilities.

I wonder what’s not working for you?

  • Maybe you feel pain or discomfort in your physical body.
  • Perhaps movements like walking, sitting, hiking, reaching, or getting down and up from the floor feel more difficult
  • Does an injury or diagnosis give you persistent challenges?
  • Perhaps you feel stuck in the stress response.

Maybe you are a Mom seeking to support a child with stress and special needs. I’ve been there, and I can help.

Are you in mid-later life and wish to improve posture, flexibility, and balance? I answered my own eye patterns and found tools to answer my quirky back. The Feldenkrais work might be of service to you.

Change is possible. I know it. I’ve lived it. I understand that the body and mind are intricately intertwined. Our wellness relies on ease in both. I believe I can support you with all that I have learned on my journey. For decades, I have been learning ease in functional movement.

IN A WORLD OF TRYING HARDER, WHAT IF YOU TRIED SOFTER?

Play with awareness and movement allows us to slow down, connecting with our bodies and our breath. Habitual tensions let go. We can get stuck in physical or emotional patterns that no longer serve us. Awareness offers us the opportunity for something new. We can learn to think, feel, and move differently in the world. Nervous system regulation builds feelings of safety, and learning unfolds. Awareness with compassionate inquiry allows the brain to build new connections.

I believe there is something to learn from a child’s way of being. The young child is curious and exploring with an openness to the process. Young children rest fully when needed and haven’t yet learned to be hard on their physical or emotional selves. Their lives expand with curiosity and kindness for themselves. Yours can too.

THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD & HAVENING: TWO OFFERINGS GROUNDED IN NEUROSCIENCE

FELDENKRAIS GROUP CLASSES & ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS

Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement Group Classes or One-on-One Functional Integration Sessions: Both offerings pair gentle movements with awareness. The mind quiets, the body reduces tension and habitual efforts, and new possibilities emerge for ease in functional movement and life. Improved posture, flexibility, coordination, performance, reduced pain, and recovery are all benefits of this work.

RESTORATIVE HAVENING SESSIONS

Havening Technique Sessions can be in-person or virtual and use soothing touch to calm, build internal resources, and awareness of how early stress can shape us. Delta brain waves are created and facilitate neurochemical reactions that reshape the dendrites in the amygdala. This can change how we filter sensory information. If you feel stuck in stress responses or emotional patterns that don’t serve you, this work can produce quick and dramatic results.

OPTIONS FOR WORK & PLAY TOGETHER

One-on-one sessions are available with the Chesapeake Mental Health Collaborative located at 1012 Dulaney Valley Road, Towson, MD, or in my studio space in Parkton, MD. I am open to a free phone consultation to discuss your specific goals and needs. If we proceed with work together, I charge $100 per session in my home studio with discounts for first-time clients. and $110 at the Towson office.

“Shelly is a grounded and deeply compassionate practitioner.  After my first Feldenkrais session with her I felt more fully and completely present in myself then I had in ages.  Her gentle playfulness shines through in all she does.  She is a gift for families seeking holistic, body centered support for their children, especially neurodivergent kids or those with special needs.  Parents can trust Shelly’s intuitive sense of what everyone in a family needs to feel more connected to themselves and each other. In addition to in person Feldenkrais sessions on the table, the Havening techniques she teaches and shares are effective tools you can use at home immediately. I wholeheartedly recommend Shelly to friends, clients and other therapists.”
