“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he or she grows up.“
Pablo Picasso

REFLECTIONS ON ART, PROCESS, AND SELF IMAGE
Play and reflections on life inspire my art. These are snapshots of my finished products, but there is a larger story. The process of these works was messier, more alive with a richness of emotions and stories. Sometimes my art was a prayer for our world, a gift for a dear one, or a reflection on life. Inevitably my mind quiets as my hand creates, and I can lose track of time. Does that thought remind you of a child deeply attentive in their play? Me too.
There is also the evolution of my self-image through the years to see myself as an artist. For a long time, I didn’t sign my work, as I didn’t think of myself as a real artist (whatever that means. For the record, I still don’t know). A friend called me on it. I love friends that speak honestly with a whole lot of love behind it. For the longest while, I was just a stay at home mom who dabbled with art. Now I see the wisdom in leaving the “just” far behind and holding onto the idea of dabbling and play. And I’m ok trying the “artist” on for size. As you take a peek below, I invite you to consider where you might have limiting beliefs of self-image that hold you back. Maybe there’s an opening for play and something new to emerge.
